Cases regarding Blackop2019 (talk - contribs - deleted contribs - logs - edit filter log - block user - block log)

Case 1 of 22:36, 8 June 2019 (BST)

Case details

b1ack0p asked RF1dle whether he was okay and RF1dle responded indicating he was not okay but had been better and been worse. b1ack0p then responded saying so normal and RF1dle clarified it was not to which b1ack0p insisted still normal. The responding operator seeked to moderate the situation enforcing a +m and removing b1ack0p's voice while the user was contacted over PM following a discussion with the other op. The user claimed over PM to not have understood the issue and not to have been aware of RF1dle's personal circumstances despite being informed the day before over PM where b1ack0p was also believed to have been dismissive towards RF1dle RhinosF1 (Staff) - Chat!/Email us! 22:36, 8 June 2019 (BST)

Statement by b1ack0p

yesterday (8/6/2019) RF1dle mentioned about personal problems in PM and i listened him as a chat friend. i was in another city and i was not fully focused on the problems he mentioned as my connection was very poor. today i traveled long time and i was tired. when i asked RF1dle how he was my response was not meant to be rude or offensive by saying "normal" and "still normal" as i dont know details of his problems. I have a 2 questions for you in regards but will make a comment first.

  • I am aware that you were tired and have language barriers which aren't helped by IRC
  • Questions:
    1. When someone who you don't really know states something isn't normal, why do you disagree with that?
    2. Do you understand how it caused upset? What would you do diffrently?

RhinosF1 (Staff) - Chat!/Email us! 22:58, 8 June 2019 (BST)

yes sorry about language barrier and maybe culture barrier too.
  • by saying "normal" i wanted to help or calm your bad situation to manipulate your psychology to think it is normal so u can get over it. also to give awareness many ppl around the world are having problems and you should be strong as i told you yesterday. again i am sorry i dont know details and how serious your situation is.
  • i didnt know how my response caused upset. i would response more sensitively.

Thanks for your reply - my response:
  • I said yesterday that it's not that simple although you were travelling yesterday and not fully paying attention you should have been aware that things aren't that simple. There may be a cultural barrier but I don't see how you can tell someone 'it is' normal maybe 'i've been down before, what's up, you'll get through it' but not undermining the issues
  • Can you expand on how you would be more sensitive? What would that involve?
RhinosF1 (Staff) - Chat!/Email us! 23:11, 8 June 2019 (BST)
  • sorry i should be aware of the situation.
  • i could support you to stay strong even things are not good. i could ask for details and support you to get over. or show that i understand the situation.

Final remarks by RhinosF1

The evidence presented indicates that b1ack0p did not wholly intend to be offensive but was aware of the situations and shows signs that he may not be fully aware of the impact he could have caused. b1ack0p has been warned in non-affiliated channels on the same network before and has shown the inability to understand channel rules. b1ack0p left the channel following the case although action should be considered in the case. The options available limit from full bans, IRC bans or temporary bans. RhinosF1 (Staff) - Chat!/Email us! 23:47, 8 June 2019 (BST)

Final Sanctions

I have chosen to implement 2 sanctions based on this case.

  • I'll outline why below:
    1. The user was evasive in responses
    2. The user has a history of misconduct in channels
    3. There is evidence the user is unable to change and understand issues
    4. The user was aware of the my situation
    5. The user has not shown how they would act differently
  • I therefore see no other reasonable option other than:
    1. Placing Blackop2019/b1ack0p under a 6 month conduct review where further violations of conduct policies may lead to a block double the length of the previous block and doubling the review period remaining.
    2. Banning Blackop2019 (talk - contribs - deleted contribs - logs - edit filter log - block user - block log) from IRC and wiki for 72 hours.
  • RhinosF1 (Staff) - Chat!/Email us! 09:11, 9 June 2019 (BST)

  • Amended: Further violations will now be an indef block. Thanks QuIRC - 23:18 BST - 10 Jun 2019
